Skincare Series: Moisturizer

My latest obsession has to do with all things skincare! For years, I neglected a proper skincare routine and I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self how important it is to establish a skincare routine. I have combination skin and I  always associated moisturizer with greasiness and breakouts, which couldn't be further from the truth. Lack of moisture in your skin can often make you produce extra sebum and in return cause more breakouts. Since starting a skincare routine my skin hasn't looked better and for obvious reasons... I am ACTUALLY taking care of it! Just like taking care of your physical health you have to take care of the largest organ, your skin!

Before I get to my favorite moisturizers I want to stress the one tip that I've heard for years but never really put into action until recently... DRINK LOTS OF WATER! I am telling you this is absolutely true. Our skin needs hydration and the easiest and most inexpensive way to achieve this is by drinking lots of water. t's amazing the difference you will see.  Not to mention the rest of your body reaps the rewards as well.

Below are a few of my favorite moisturizers that I can't live without.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream  -
This cream is amazing and the company is pretty great too! My skin feels so soft and incredible after I use this cream. It's my go-to and I can't recommend it enough. Fresh uses natural ingredients as the core of each of their products. They have a large product selection and I can't wait to dive deeper into this company and check out more of their products. Every product I have tried of theirs I have loved so I anticipate many more must haves to come from this company!

Philosophy - Renewed Hope in a Jar Day Cream -
I love this moisturizer. It's a great everyday moisturizer and the coordinating night cream is a great compliment to it. The moisturizer feels great on the skin, isn't oily and doesn't make my make up run.

Tarte - Drink of H20 - Hydrating Boost
This moisturizer is exactly like the title says, it feels like a drink of H20. It's more of a gel consistency rather than a cream but it soaks into your skin amazingly well. My skin feels more refreshed and alive after I use this cream. I reserve it for days that my skin is really feeling tired or dry and this provides the extra boost I was looking for. Love this!

Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream -
This cream is great for those really dry days or days you know you need your moisturizer to last all day. It provides great all day hydration. The formula is a little thicker than those mentioned about which provides great coverage but can easily be over moisturized if you're not careful. A little goes a long way. Either way, its a must have in my bathroom.

Ultra Facial Cream

There you have it, my favorite products of the moment. What are your favorites? I'm always interested in trying new products and putting them to the test. Look out for more skincare posts in the future. Eye creams, masks, night creams, toners... Oh my!

Until next time...

Happy Fall Y'all

My favorite season is upon us... Fall! Break out the riding boots, skinny jeans, sweaters, scarves, pumpkin spice lattes and apple orchards. I love how the air smells, the ever changing colors on the leaves outside and the noise of crunching leaves as we take our dog on a walk through the park. Every year we make it a point to visit a local apple orchard and pick up our favorite Honey Crisp Apples, apple cider donuts and a few other apple bakery goods that we just can't pass up and of course the hayride through the orchard. This year we made a Fall Bucket List of all the items we love doing (and a few projects to keep our toddler entertained) to make sure we fit them all in. Making it was super easy, I just made a quick template using Microsoft Word and added some fall pictures to spruce it up. (Have to make it look cute hanging on the fridge right?)

Here are just a few of the items on our list this year:

- Visit a local farm during a fall festival
- Carve pumpkins
- Drink apple cider
- Visit an apple orchard
- Make an apple pie
- Make our way through a corn maze
- Make chili
- Snuggle up in front of the fireplace for a cozy night in
- Create art with leaves
- Rake leaves and jump in them
- Snuggle up on a hayride
- Make a stamped apple tree
- Have a bonfire
- Eat apple cider donuts
- Attend the local high school football game
- Go on a walk and crunch leaves with our feet
- Have a family movie night (complete with popcorn and candy corn of course!)
- With all of our activities - Have fun and enjoy our time as a family

I hope this inspires you to get out and enjoy some of the favorite things we love about Fall!

New Home! Filling a home.... Home Decor!

Wow, what a summer! I feel like summer goes by incredibly too fast however this year it seemed to fly by even faster. We had a busy summer. We sold our first home, moved in with my parents while we waited to close on our new home. We have been in our home for a little over a month and are slowly putting it together. I don't like to rush to purchase items just to fill a room and complete it. I like to take my time, search high and low and find the right items to fill a room. We still have lots to buy. We went from a 1400 sq.ft house to a house double that size, plus some. We still have lots of items to hunt for and purchase.

We need to furnish a formal dining room, find area rugs, fill a kitchen (so much space!), find a new informal dining table, coffee tables, end tables, art, furnish a guest room and a loft which we are creating a family movie room. So much to do! Below are some of our favorite finds to date:

Athleisure wear is the hottest trend right now for active lifestyles and everyone under the sun is offering cute, functional outfits that take you from the gym to the coffee shop to around the city for a day filled with errands. I've complied some of my favorite looks. Happy Shopping!!

Morgan Stewart teamed up with Touche to create her own active line. What I love about this collaboration is Morgan is literally involved in every decision in the design process. If I can offer any advice, follow her on Instagram (boobsandloubs) and you will know that this girl has some serious style. Hurry don't wait on these styles. She had a full zip hoodie named Baguette and shorts named Jon that I was dying to get my hands on but sadly it sold out before I could get one.  Below are just some of my favorite styles from her collaboration:

Lemon Thyme Salt Scrub

The summer months always make me want to exfoliate every inch of my body to get off all the dead skin and it makes me feel like I'm sloughing away winter. Clearly that last part is all in my head! I created the recipe below to help scrub away during the summer months. I especially like to use this after a day of gardening. It helps get all the dirt and grim off.

Lemon Thyme Salt Scrub
1/2 cup of olive oil or coconut oil
1 cup Epsom salt
Sprig of Thyme chopped
Zest from 1 medium sized lemon
6-8 drops of lemongrass essential oil or eucalyptus essential oil

Add all ingredients to a large bowl and mix well. To get the mixture right you may need to add more oil or more salt depending on the consistency you like.

Mom Life: Separation Anxiety / Bedtime

I'm back!

After a long hiatus to focus on family life and my everyday work life, I am back and so excited for the future and what I have in store for this blog. I have some exciting things planned so I hope you stayed tuned.

In our home, we are currently struggling with separation anxiety with our little 2 year old. It started two weeks ago when I went out of town to Washington, DC for a week. I came back and she is so fearful that I am not going to be there in the morning that our bedtime routine has been full of tears and anxiety. G fights going to sleep every night, when previously she would gladly go to bed and not fight us on it. We always said we were really blessed with an easy child… I guess this is payback for having it easy from newborn until now. Last night she woke up 5 times crying and saying she doesn’t want to go to sleep, when you can clearly see that she is exhausted. So fellow parents… I need help! Any tips/tricks you can share on getting your little one to go to sleep and stay asleep without the crying? And how to tackle separation anxiety? It truly breaks my heart to see her so distraught over the fear of me not being there in the morning.
