Lemon Thyme Salt Scrub

The summer months always make me want to exfoliate every inch of my body to get off all the dead skin and it makes me feel like I'm sloughing away winter. Clearly that last part is all in my head! I created the recipe below to help scrub away during the summer months. I especially like to use this after a day of gardening. It helps get all the dirt and grim off.

Lemon Thyme Salt Scrub
1/2 cup of olive oil or coconut oil
1 cup Epsom salt
Sprig of Thyme chopped
Zest from 1 medium sized lemon
6-8 drops of lemongrass essential oil or eucalyptus essential oil

Add all ingredients to a large bowl and mix well. To get the mixture right you may need to add more oil or more salt depending on the consistency you like.

Mom Life: Separation Anxiety / Bedtime

I'm back!

After a long hiatus to focus on family life and my everyday work life, I am back and so excited for the future and what I have in store for this blog. I have some exciting things planned so I hope you stayed tuned.

In our home, we are currently struggling with separation anxiety with our little 2 year old. It started two weeks ago when I went out of town to Washington, DC for a week. I came back and she is so fearful that I am not going to be there in the morning that our bedtime routine has been full of tears and anxiety. G fights going to sleep every night, when previously she would gladly go to bed and not fight us on it. We always said we were really blessed with an easy child… I guess this is payback for having it easy from newborn until now. Last night she woke up 5 times crying and saying she doesn’t want to go to sleep, when you can clearly see that she is exhausted. So fellow parents… I need help! Any tips/tricks you can share on getting your little one to go to sleep and stay asleep without the crying? And how to tackle separation anxiety? It truly breaks my heart to see her so distraught over the fear of me not being there in the morning.

Girl Talk - Cawfeetawk with Jaime Primak Sullivan

During my morning coffee break I usually browse Twitter to see what's going on in the world around me and what people have to say. This morning I stumbled on Jaime Primak Sullivan's Cawfeetawk video series that she has teamed up with Keurig to do and it moved me enough to make a blog post about it.

First of all, let me say that I was a huge fan of her show Jersey Belle. Her and her friends are real and from all walks of life and they just seem like good friends who will always be there for each other no matter what. Girls that I definitely could see myself being friends with. Good girls are so hard to find these days and this is where the Cawfeetawk series comes in.

We live in a world where woman are so quick to put each other down and judge other women, whether it be for looks, size, race, style, etc. It's really disheartening to see so much women hate going on in the world. If you browse Twitter or Instagram for just 5 minutes you can see all the hate and it just makes me upset that people think it is ok to do this. As a mother of a 2 year old daughter and it makes me sad that she is going to grow up in a world that is like this and I’m sure it is only going to get worse unless something is done to stop the hate.

Women need to learn to support and encourage each other, not rip each other to shreds. This is one reason why I love the Cawfeetawk series that Jaime is doing. Her videos are all about supporting each other as women, people, and as humans. She talks about dealing with things going on in real life like infertility, anxiety, hate, stress, loss, love, joy and just plain good girlfriend talk. Every topic she covers make you sit back and think about your own life and find ways to tweak your own life to not allow others to steal your moment or life.

One piece of advice I love from her is “Don’t let others steal your joy. Share your joy with them, extend your joy and happiness.”

If you change just one person’s perspective, maybe the world can change slowly and it won’t be so filled with hate for our children and grandchildren.

I highly recommend checking out her video series. It's so inspirational and real, she is just what the world needs!

April TV & (a book) Favorite

I love looking at favorites posts and videos so I thought I would do my own. Contrary to what I am about to post, I really try not to be a TV junkie. My daughter goes to bed at 7:00 so without . Without further ado here we go...
Let's start with the book and then move onto my TV picks.
#1 - Book - The Andy Cohen Diaries

The Andy Cohen Diaries by Andy Cohen

I read this book within a couple days whenever I could get my hands on it. I couldn't put it down. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. He has quite a few name drops and it's fabulous! Who wouldn't want to know what it's like to hang out with SJP? I mean she was THE Carrie Bradshaw! Not only SJP but Kelly Ripa too! Those two girls are my everything. It was fun to get a sneak peek into Andy's world (a busy one that's full of booze) and those of the rich and famous. It makes me long for a vacation to the Hamptons though. It's a bucket list item of mine. HIGHLY suggest this book. It's FABULOUS!

#2  - TV Show - Good Witch - Hallmark Channel

I'm a HUGE Hallmark Channel fan. I'm a sucker for all the Hallmark Movies. A perfect Saturday night in after my daughter goes to sleep involves me curled up in my pajamas, on the couch with a cup of tea watching a Hallmark movie or in this case a Hallmark series. Good Witch's season just ended this past weekend and it was fantastic. This started off as a movie series and I was thrilled to find out they decided to make it into a TV series. I was sad to see it end this season, it left me wanting more.

It's so rare these days to find quality programming and this one is great! I highly recommend catching up on this show on iTunes or onDemand whenever you can. James Denton, Catherine Bell and Bailee Madison are fantastic in this series! I'm so glad it's coming back for another season.

#3 - TV Show - Southern Charm - Bravo

I literally love this show and I blame Cameran Eubanks for that! She is by far the funniest girl on reality TV. She has great style and I want to raid her closet. One thing I like about this show is it's not like the other reality shows out there that their main purpose in life is to ruin each other. This cast actually gets along with the exception of Whitney and Katherine but she just seems unhappy towards everything this season.

#4 - TV Show - The Royals on E!

This is my guilty, guilty pleasure. This show has seriously sucked me in. It has fully sucked me in and I couldn't be happier. Each week it leaves me wanting more.

What shows are you loving right now?

Mommy Find: Babiators

During an errand run to the eye doctor to pick up my contacts, I brought G with me, she loves running errands with me and I love having a little partner on my adventures. The girl will stop at nothing to  hamming it up with any audience so she was having a ball while I was picking up my lenses. At this at all the age of 2, I think I'm in trouble. While she was busy performing for everyone it happened... she spotted something that she just knew was for her, BABIATORS. I have to admit when she brought me over to them I had a little laugh because she always tends to find something that she has to have no matter where we are, plus they are SUPER cute. I was impressed with how well they were made and that they are essentially kid proof in that they didn't snap in half when she tried to put them on herself. So I did what any mother would that can't say no to a quality made product that is also stylish, I caved and bought her a pair. They are so darling and she loves them. Sadly, it's a gloomy, cold, overcast day so she didn't get to show them off much today but I do have a feeling that we won't be leaving home without these anymore.

As I was reading about the company I fell in love with them more. They have a guarantee that if your child breaks or loses them they will REPLACE them for free! It's so great to have a company that understands kids and can sympathize with the parents. :) The cost was another plus, we picked these up for $20, which I think is a great reasonable price, especially with the guarantee. I would highly recommend BABIATORS for the little ones in your lives. Quality products, great guarantee and CUTE!

These are the ones G picked up!

Shoes! Tory Burch Flats

Let's talk about one of my favorite subjects... Shoes!!!! I'm a shoes and handbag girl! Give me either and I will love you forever!

A few years ago I made the statement "I will never wear flats when there are so many heels to be worn". Fast forward a couple years, a pregnancy and chasing a toddler around, now I live in flats. Oh how the times change. When I was entering the world of flats I went to the best... Tory Burch! I'm obsessed with her flats. The Reva's and Caroline are some of my favorites and staples in my closet. They are so comfortable and chic at the same time. They can easily be transitioned from day to night.

One thing I love about the Tory Burch brand is the quality and the customer service. I have never encountered such great customer service. Bravo to a great company and great products!

They just launched a new ballet flat the "Minnie" proven to be great for travel as they are foldable. I'm dying to get my hands on them.

Skin Care: Cetaphil

I am constantly on the look out for new face cleansers. My skin is combination and after using a face cleanser for a while my skin freaks out and then it's time to find something else. I have tried high end products, mid-range products and drug store and the product that is consistently working for my skin was a surprising discovery for me. It's Cetaphil! My skin has never looked better while using Cetaphil and the best part is it's totally affordable. I like to use the one formulated for normal to oily skin.

The cleanser is gentle for multi-use throughout the day and my skin is glowing. My breakouts are pretty much non-existent which was always a battle. Even though I'm in my 30s I used to get a few breakouts every now and then but since using this, it's really rare for a breakout to happen. When I do breakout it's usually around that time of the month so it's hormone based and there's no creme out there that will stop that! I wished I knew about Cetaphil years ago, ,I could have saved so much money.

One tip: I will sometimes use it as a mask as well. After cleansing my face, I will put a layer of cleanser on my face and let it sit for 4-5 minutes. My skin looks amazing afterwards!

Happy Cleansing!

Have you ever come across a product that you feel like you "should" like it due to the rave reviews you have heard? This is how I felt when I tried out GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment.

I had heard such great things about this product and I really wanted to like it but this product just didn't do it for me.

First impressions, I'm not a fan of the smell. It almost smells like papaya but papaya gone bad. Moving past the smell, I applied it to my face and it felt great on like a normal mud mask. After washing it off I was disappointed. I didn't feel like my face felt hydrated and glowing. It looked and felt very greasy. Maybe this was the "glow" the product was supposed to give off?? But it didn't feel great and definitely didn't look great. I continued to use the product for a few more weeks to see if my opinion would change and sadly it didn't.

I'm skeptical on trying the other treatments from GlamGlow now. I was interested in trying the SUPERMUD but am hesitant now. I will keep you posted if I end up trying it.

Product Review: Baby Pibu Natural Soothing Eczema Skincare Kit

I have been using a product for a little over a month, I wanted to really try it out before writing a review. I feel like sometimes review posts can be rushed and when it comes to stuff that goes on my body I like to give it a real trial run before committing to my review.

I have been using the Baby Pibu Natural Soothing Eczema skincare kit for a little over a month now.   My daughter suffers from mild eczema on her legs and arms, we have tried several products and no other product has been able to provide relief faster than this kit. We live in the Midwest and our winters can be pretty harsh on the skin. My hands tend to get really dry in the winter and no amount of lotion seems to help.A couple weeks I ago I started using the Hydrating Creme on my hands and I have been loving it! It brings the moisture back and leaves my hands feeling so incredibly soft. This product came at the right time for our family! I love that there is no overwhelming scent with this. I feel like perfumes in products tend to dry out my skin even more, so this was a huge help that there is no scent to the cream.

I love that this line was created by a dermatologist mom who understands that our children's skin is sensitive. The gentle ingredients allow for the products to be used all over their little bodies and provide instant relief.  I can't wait to try out other products from this company. The skincare kit I tried is $36 which is pretty affordable, especially considering all the products we have tried before this. We will definitely continue to use this. I cannot recommend the Hydrating Creme enough.

Fashion: Lilly Pulitzer - Part Two

Part two of my obsessions.... Blogger wasn't cooperating so I had to split this into two posts
